Degrassi Takes Manhattan is a 2010 Canadian TV movie based on Degrassi: The Next Generation. It’s the fourth Degrassi feature-length film and the second to star the Next Generation cast. The movie was directed by Stefan Brogren.

It premiered on MuchMusic in Canada on July 16, 2010, and aired in the United States on TeenNick on July 19, 2010. In syndication, it was shown in four parts. An extended version was later released as a bonus on the show’s season 9 DVD. The film is considered a de facto finale for The Next Generation.

The story follows Spinner and Jane as the school year ends. Jane moves to Manhattan to live with Holly J., Declan, and his sister Fiona. Spinner hires Emma as a new server and the drama unfolds around friendships, romances, and fake-outs. Holly J. and Jane clash with Fiona, who tries to win Declan back. Jane explores New York, joins an indie band called Flashin’ Midnight, and weighs skipping college for a music opportunity. Meanwhile, Spinner and Emma grow closer, especially after a wild trip to Niagara Falls where they get married in a drunken moment.

Back in Toronto, Jane confronts her own feelings as she watches her friends’ choices unfold. She ultimately realizes Spinner and Emma are in love, and the wedding in Niagara Falls is allowed to stand. The film includes a nod to Drake (Aubrey Graham) in dialogue, though his character isn’t shown.

The movie was filmed in Toronto and New York City. The soundtrack, Degrassi Takes Manhattan: The Heat Is On, released in July 2010, features indie bands along with original songs by cast members.

Overall, Degrassi Takes Manhattan marked a high-rating moment for TeenNick and served as a capstone for the series’ Next Generation era.
