Knut A. Jacobsen is a Norwegian scholar of the history of religions and a professor at the University of Bergen. He is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. He earned his PhD at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1994 and has taught at the University of Bergen since 1996. He teaches Hindu traditions, Sikhism, Jainism, Indian Buddhism, and Indian philosophy. His main research areas are Sāṃkhya, Yoga, pilgrimages in South Asia, and South Asian religions and migration. He founded and served as editor-in-chief of Brill's Encyclopedia of Hinduism (six volumes, 2009–2015) and is editor-in-chief of its online version. He has written or edited more than 30 books in Norwegian and English.
