Kevin Healy
Kevin Martin Healy (1909–2001) was an Australian communist activist and trade unionist. He was born in Fremantle, Western Australia, but at age two his family moved to Ireland. He returned to Western Australia in the late 1920s and worked as a labourer. He got involved in radical politics, took part in the 1930 Carnarvon shearers' strike, and joined the Communist Party of Australia in 1937, eventually becoming the chairman of the party's state committee. In 1949 he faced sedition charges, defended himself, and was acquitted. In the early 1950s he moved to New South Wales and worked at Mort's Dock. He later worked on Aboriginal issues and in 1992 founded the Ryde Aboriginal Interest Group for Ryde Municipal Council's bicentennial.
