Kestanepazarı Mosque
Kestanepazarı Mosque, meaning Chestnut Market Mosque, is a historic mosque in İzmir, Turkey, located in Ahmetağa, Konak. It was built around 1668 (the Islamic year 1078) and noted by the traveler Evliya Çelebi. The mosque was expanded by Eminzade Ahmet Ağa and gained its present look in the 19th century. It is a stone and marble building with two levels and a square plan. A large central dome is flanked by four smaller domes at the corners, with half domes between them that create curved crests along the walls. The mihrab was brought from the İsa Bey Mosque in Selçuk. Inside, a panel decorated with Quranic verses and gilded floral patterns can be found. The minaret sits in the northwest corner and is built entirely of cut stone.
