BMW R nineT
The BMW R nineT is a standard motorcycle from BMW Motorrad, first released in 2014 and made through 2023. It’s a retro-styled roadster built as a “blank canvas” for customizing, appealing to builders and enthusiasts. All models include ABS, and automatic stability control (ASC) is optional.
Power comes from a 1,170 cc air/oil-cooled boxer engine that delivers about 110 hp at 7,610 rpm and 74.3 ft-lb of torque at 6,090 rpm. It uses a 6-speed dry-clutch transmission with a shaft drive. The front suspension on the original R nineT is upside-down forks, while other versions use conventional telescopic forks. Brakes are discs on both ends, with 17-inch wheels and 120/70 front and 180/55 rear tires.
Key geometry includes a wheelbase of 1,476 mm, a front rake of 25.5°, and 102.5 mm of trail. The bike measures 2,220 mm long, 890 mm wide, and 1,266 mm tall (without mirrors), with a seat height of 780 mm. It holds 18 liters of fuel.
Design makes customization easy: separate wiring for the engine and chassis, and minimal bolts for the rear subframe, tail light, and headlight. Reviewers praise its high build quality, good handling, and the character of the old-school air/oil boxer engine, which blends heritage with modern performance.
As of 2017 there were five R nineT variants, mainly differing in front suspension. BMW continued to develop the platform, leading to updates and a successor named the R 12 nineT.
