Kenya Institute of Social Work and Community Development
Kenya Institute of Social Work and Community Development (KISWCD) is a private, community-focused training institution in Nairobi, Kenya. It operates independently of government, religious groups, or politics and was registered as a training institution by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in 2002. In 2016, it was licensed to operate under the TVET Act 2013.
What it offers
- Programs: Certificate and diploma courses in Community Development, Social Work and Welfare, Project Management, Community Health, and Counseling. Short courses and consultancy services are also available.
- Examinations: KISWCD serves as an examination center for Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), ABMA UK, NITA, CDAAC, and the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM UK).
- Learning options: The institute provides both on-campus study and distance learning. Intakes are in January, May, and September, with online registration for distance learning.
Campus and administration
- Location: The main campus is Urban, 25 acres, with the main building on Southern House, 2nd floor, off Moi Avenue opposite Meridian Hotel, Nairobi.

- Management: A Board of Governors, experienced in social work, education management, business, HR, finance, psychology, health, counseling, and law.
Student experience
- Field work: All students must complete an NGO or community-based placement of at least three months during the academic year.
- Accommodation: KISWCD does not offer in-house housing. It helps arrange safe accommodation, and students pay for it themselves.
- International reach: Students from Kenya and neighboring countries such as Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Sudan, Somalia, and Ethiopia have enrolled.
