Kennicott Glacier is a glacier in Alaska, located in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park near the town of McCarthy and the historic mining town of Kennecott. It runs southeast for about 43 kilometers (27 miles) from Mount Blackburn to the Kennicott River. The glacier was named in 1899 by geologist Oscar Rohn for Robert Kennicott, an early Alaska explorer. Within the glacier near Mount Blackburn sits Packsaddle Island, a nunatak (a rocky peak that sticks up through the ice). The glacier gave its name to the Alaska Marine Highway vessel M/V Kennicott. The glacier is retreating.
