Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition 1
Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition 1, later known as Celebrity Edition 1, aired on ABS-CBN from February 5 to April 1, 2006, for 56 days. It featured 14 celebrity housemates. Keanna Reeves won the season, with John Prats as runner-up; Bianca Gonzalez and Zanjoe Marudo were finalists.
Hosts and guests
- Primary hosts: Toni Gonzaga, Luis Manzano, and Mariel Rodriguez.
- Willie Revillame was originally set to host but withdrew after the Wowowee stampede. Boy Abunda hosted The Big Debate, a pre-finale debate show.
Where to watch
- Broadcast on ABS-CBN, Studio 23, and the online service ABS-CBN Now.
The house and format
- The Big Brother house was the same as the first season but with interior changes.
- The season started with a “back to basics” concept: no furniture beyond a plasma TV and a refrigerator. Housemates used bamboo furniture, toothbrushes and utensils made from simple materials, cooked with basic outdoor facilities, and fetched potable water from a pump. After two weeks, the concept was relaxed as housemates adapted.
- The Forbidden Room served as the ladies’ bedroom, while the initial bamboo beds for men were later replaced with mattresses. The pool was available, and wearing shoes indoors was eventually allowed.
Premiere and grand welcome
- The show opened with a grand welcome at Manila Bay. Contestants arrived by yacht to the Big Brother House.
- A prayer led by Fr. Tito Caluag, a moment of silence for stampede victims, and a performance of You Raise Me Up marked the start. Myx VJ Luis Manzano filled in for Willie Revillame during this period.
Prizes
- The prize package included 3 million pesos total: 1 million pesos to the winner, 1 million to the winner’s chosen charity, and 1 million to a charity chosen by Big Brother. There was also a condominium unit in Valenzuela City.
Finale
- The finale took place at the Manila Post Office. Keanna Reeves won with about 44% of the votes (571,607), John Prats had about 29% (372,198), Bianca Gonzalez about 19% (245,594), and Zanjoe Marudo about 8% (103,422).
Trivia
- Vice Ganda auditioned for Celebrity Edition 2006 but didn’t reach the final lineup.
- The season was retroactively named Celebrity Edition 1 to distinguish it from the second celebrity edition.
