Kendrick Lamar is an American rapper with six studio albums, one compilation, one EP, one soundtrack, and five mixtapes. By June 2018 he had sold about 17.9 million album-equivalent units worldwide, and in the U.S. five of his albums reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The RIAA has certified 7.5 million of his album units.

He started his career as K.Dot, releasing mixtapes while in high school. He signed with Top Dawg Entertainment in 2005. Early mixtapes include Training Day (2007), No Sleep ’Til NYC (with Jay Rock, 2007), and C4 (2009). He stopped using the K.Dot name in 2009. His fifth mixtape, Overly Dedicated (2010), reached No. 72 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

His first studio album, Section.80 (2011), peaked at No. 113 on the Billboard 200. The breakthrough came with Good Kid, M.A.A.D City (2012), released with Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope. Good Kid, M.A.A.D City has spent more weeks on the Billboard 200 than any hip-hop studio album, with 550 weeks by May 2023.

To Pimp a Butterfly (2015) became his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 and topped charts in several countries. Untitled Unmastered (2016) also reached No. 1. Damn (2017) was the Billboard year-end No. 1 album of 2017 and was among the year's best-selling albums worldwide.

In 2018 he curated Black Panther: The Album, which set streaming records for a soundtrack. Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers (2022) marked the end of his tenure with TDE and Aftermath, topping charts in more than ten countries and earning over a billion Spotify streams. He surprise-released GNX in 2024, which produced two Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits: "Squabble Up" and "Luther," with "Luther" staying at No. 1 for 13 weeks.
