Ken Cooley
Ken William Cooley (born March 18, 1953) is an American politician from California. A Democrat, he served in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2022, representing the 8th Assembly District in eastern Sacramento County, including Carmichael and Citrus Heights. After the 2020 census, he ran for the 7th District in the 2022 election but lost to Republican Josh Hoover. Before joining the Assembly, he was a mayor and city council member in Rancho Cordova (city council 2002–2012; mayor 2005–2006 and 2010–2011). Born in Berkeley and raised in San Lorenzo, Hayward, and San Jose, Cooley earned a BA from UC Berkeley in 1977 and a JD from McGeorge School of Law in 1984. His career includes roles as chief of staff to Assemblyman Lou Papan (1977–1985); legislative counsel for the California Land Title Association (1985–1988); chief counsel to the Finance and Insurance Committee (1988–1991); and legal counsel to State Farm Insurance (1991–2008). He resides in Rancho Cordova.
