Kappelberg (Rhenish Hesse)
Kappelberg is the highest hill in Rhenish Hesse, at 358 metres, in central Germany. It sits in the Vorholz forest between Bechenheim, Orbis and Oberwiesen, near the border with the Palatinate. About 10 metres from the summit lies a large cairn made of basalt rocks. In old spellings the name was Cappelberg, which may indicate there was once an old chapel at the site. In May 2008, a group from the nearby villages formed to make the highest point accessible and signposted, since it had been buried under thick undergrowth. In March 2009 a summit cross was erected at the top. Coordinates: 49°42′30″N 7°58′54″E.
