KA Tun Azizan
KA Tun Azizan is an auxiliary multi-purpose support ship of the Royal Malaysian Navy. Named after Azizan Zainul Abidin, the ship was converted from a used cargo vessel by Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE) with sponsorship from PETRONAS and transfer from MISC. Built by MMHE in Pasir Gudang, Johor, it was launched on 5 May 2015 and began naval operations on 13 May 2015. It serves as a mobile forward operating base to support the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) in the Sulu Sea near Lahad Datu, Sabah. The vessel can accommodate up to 99 crew and provides living quarters, dining, laundry, work and communications spaces, a powerhouse, air conditioning, and military facilities. It is armed with light weapons (FN MAG, FN Minimi, Mk 19 grenade launcher) and can carry one helicopter (Fennec AS555 or Super Lynx) with a hangar and helipad. KA Tun Azizan has a length of 102 m, beam of 22.7 m, draft of 5.7 m, and displacement of about 8,719 tonnes, and it can travel at around 17 knots. For propulsion, it uses heavy fuel oil for cruising and marine diesel for generators, with tanks for fuel, oil and fresh water. Identification numbers are IMO 9169873, MMSI 533130353, and Callsign 9MOD. The ship remains in active service with RMN.
