Aheza Kiros
Aheza Kiros, born October 16, 1985 in Tigray, Ethiopia, is a long-distance runner who mainly competes in the 10,000 metres. She has competed at African and world championships and won several major road races. Highlights include finishing fourth at the 2006 African Championships and seventeenth at the 2007 World Championships. In 2009 she ran 14:56.33 for 5000 metres at the Adidas Track Classic, her first sub-15 minute time, and won the Carlsbad 5000 road race. She won Carlsbad again in 2011 after a runner-up finish in 2010. She has also placed well at the New York Mini 10K and Freihofer’s Run for Women, and became the first Ethiopian woman to win Beach to Beacon 10K in 2011. Her half-marathon debut was strong, with third place at the 2010 Paris Half Marathon (1:09:10) and third at the Great Ethiopian Run (33:59). Aheza began marathon running in Dubai, finishing 15th in 2012 (2:33:21) and 4th in 2013 (2:24:30).
