Juncus orthophyllus
Juncus orthophyllus, commonly known as straightleaf rush, is a rush plant found in western North America—from British Columbia to California and Nevada. It grows in moist mountain areas like meadows. This perennial herb has stems up to about 0.5 meters (20 inches) tall, rising from a tough creeping rhizome. There are several flattened leaves at the base of the stem, and sometimes one or more smaller leaves along the stem. Its flowers are arranged in open clusters, with several clusters of up to 10 flowers each. Each flower has rough green segments with brown edges and bristles at the tips.
