Juan Gossaín
Juan Antonio Gossaín Abdallah (born January 17, 1949) is a Colombian writer, journalist and novelist. He was born in San Bernardo del Viento, Córdoba, to a Lebanese father who migrated to Colombia in 1940. He began his journalism career around 1971 with El Espectador and later worked for El Heraldo in Cartagena. Gossaín directed RCN Radio from 1984 to 2010 and hosted a popular morning show. He has won the Simón Bolívar National Journalism Prize twice for best radio journalist. He covered many presidential campaigns and produced a notable piece on electoral corruption for El Tiempo. In addition to radio, he wrote several novels, including La balada de Maria Abdala, San Bernardo del Viento, La mala hierba, and the 2004 collection Puro cuento. His writing is known for vivid, suspenseful storytelling, and he is sometimes described as a fabulist. He founded a writing workshop, Centro de Altos Estudios Juan Gossaín, to teach aspiring journalists. He married Margoth Ricci in 1984 and has two children, Danilo and Isabela; he lives in Cartagena. He retired in 2010 and was hospitalized in 2012.
