John W. Lee
John William Lee, known as Jack Lee, was a British middle-distance runner born on 13 January 1881 in West Hartlepool, England, and he died on 22 August 1960 in Sedgley, England. He competed in the 800m and 1500m events.
Lee started his running with West Hartlepool Harriers and later joined Heaton Harriers, a Newcastle-based club. He finished third in the 1 mile at the AAA Championships in 1906 and again in 1907, both times behind George Butterfield.
He represented Great Britain at the 1908 Olympics in London. In the 800 metres, he finished second in his semifinal with a time of 2:01.7, but did not advance to the final; he was 0.3 seconds behind the winner John Halstead. In the 1500 metres, his semifinal time was 4:12.4, placing fourth in his heat and eliminating him from the final.
After his running career, Lee served as chairman of Newcastle United Football Club from 1949 to 1953.
