Buried in Verona
Buried in Verona were a Sydney-based Australian metalcore band formed in 2007. The group started with vocalist Brett Anderson, guitarists Mick Taylor and Katongo Chituta, bassist Scott Richmond and drummer Steve Rogers. The members grew up in the Engadine area of south Sydney and began playing local gigs, earning supports slots with Daysend, Toe To Toe and Frankenbok.
They released their debut album Circle The Dead in 2008. After recording in Melbourne, Steve Rogers left due to a serious back injury. Richie Newman joined as a third guitarist, and Chris Mellross later became the band’s drummer.
The band gained recognition in Blunt Magazine’s top bands lists in 2009 and 2010. They moved to Sweden to record their second album, Saturday Night Sever, with Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman, which came out in 2010 to positive reviews. Upon returning to Australia, they toured with Whitechapel, Soilwork, Escape the Fate and The Haunted, and in 2011 co-headlined a tour with Resist The Thought.
In 2011 there were major lineup changes: Mick Taylor and Kat Chituta left, and Sean Gynn and Nate Martin joined; Scott Richmond was replaced by Daniel Gynn. Brett Anderson remained the only original member. They returned to Sweden to record again, releasing Notorious on 1 June 2012. The album marked a shift toward a more diverse sound, and it helped the band gain broader attention.
The band signed with Artery Recordings for North America and released Notorious in Australia. Drummer changes followed: Chris Mellross left in mid-2012, with Shane O’Brien joining and later leaving in 2013 to join I Killed The Prom Queen as their drum technician and then drummer. Conor Ward joined as full-time drummer in 2013, and the band released the music video for Splintered and the new single Illuminate in 2014, preceding their fourth album Faceless, released in March 2014.
In 2015 Daniel and Sean Gynn left, leaving the band as a three-piece. They released a new single, Can’t Be Unsaid, and announced the album Vultures Above, Lions Below, which was released in August 2015. Richie Newman left the band in December 2015. In August 2016 UNFD announced that Buried in Verona had split up.
