John Neal Hodges
John Neal Hodges (February 13, 1884 – January 18, 1965) was a U.S. Army brigadier general who served in World War I and World War II. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1905 and joined the Army Corps of Engineers. In World War I, he commanded the Sixth Engineer Regiment and helped the British build bridges on the Somme. For his service, he received the Distinguished Service Medal and was promoted to brigadier general on June 26, 1918. After the war, he worked in Washington, D.C., at the Office of the Chief of Engineers and served as editor of the Military Engineer from 1929 to 1931. In World War II, he was Chief Engineer of the North Atlantic Division from 1943 to 1944 and earned the Legion of Merit. He retired in 1944. Hodges died at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, and is buried in Encinal, Texas.
