Igor Denisov is a Russian former footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. He was born on 17 May 1984 in Leningrad, now Saint Petersburg.

Denisov spent most of his career with Zenit Saint Petersburg (2002–2013), playing hundreds of games and scoring a number of goals. With Zenit, he won three Russian Premier League titles and the UEFA Cup in 2008. He later played for Anzhi Makhachkala, Dynamo Moscow, and Lokomotiv Moscow (initially on loan in 2016–2017, then permanently from 2017 to 2019). He retired from playing in 2019.

Internationally, Denisov represented Russia from 2008 to 2016, earning 54 caps. He played at Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup. He also served as Russia’s captain in 2012 after Andrei Arshavin’s absence.

Denisov’s career was marked by a combative style and several controversial moments, including a road-rage incident in 2010, training-ground clashes with coaches, and a pay dispute at Zenit in 2012. Despite the controversy, he was a key player for his teams during his prime.

After retiring, Denisov moved into coaching. He worked with the Torpedo Moscow academy in 2024 and, from 2025, with SSOR Zenit.

Personal life: Denisov has four children and owns two South African pit bulls. He is also known as a strong chess player and is notable for rarely giving interviews. He has publicly opposed Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
