John Lardner
John Lardner (born 10 May 1972 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a former professional snooker player. He turned professional in 1991 and retired in 2001. His highest ranking was 67 in the 2000–01 season, and his best finish was reaching the last 16 of the Thailand Masters in 2000.
Early life and rise
- Lardner left school early to practise snooker and believed he could become a pro.
- In 1988, he won the Star of the Future award at Prestatyn.
Career highlights
- 1993–94: Reached the final of the Benson & Hedges Championship, losing 6–9 to Ronnie O’Sullivan.
- 1999 World Championship: Won three qualifying matches (Neal Foulds, Quinten Hann, Martin Clark) to reach the main draw; in the first round at the Crucible, he lost 7–10 to Stephen Lee.
- 1999–2000: Climbed to about 72 in the world rankings; reached the UK Championship first round, losing to David Gray.
- 2000: Reached the last 16 of the Thailand Masters (his best ranking tournament finish), beating Fergal O’Brien before losing to Ken Doherty.
- World Championship qualifiers: defeated by Kristján Helgason, missing the main event.
