John H. McAvoy

John H. McAvoy (November 2, 1830 – July 24, 1893) was an Irish-born American businessman and Chicago politician. He founded the McAvoy Brewing Company in Chicago. He was elected as an alderman in 1869 and served on the Chicago City Council until 1873. In 1871, he served as City Council president during Chicago’s rebuilding after the Great Fire. He died in Chicago at age 62.
