Livingstone, Northern Territory
Livingstone is an outer rural locality near Darwin in the Northern Territory, Australia. It is about 48.5 km (30 miles) from Darwin and 28.6 km (18 miles) from Palmerston, in the Litchfield Municipality. The postcode is 0822. In the 2016 census, Livingstone had a population of 452.
Nearby suburbs include Noonamah, Hughes, Berry Springs, Acacia Hills, Darwin River and Fly Creek.
The name comes from a World War II airstrip called the 34 Mile Strip, named in honor of John D. Livingstone, Jr. He was wounded over Darwin on 4 April 1942, crash landed at the 34 mile airstrip, and died in the resulting fire. He is buried at The Gardens Cemetery.
Today, Livingstone has a rural recreation reserve managed by a community committee, and a Friday night 34 Mile Bar and Bistro that locals and visitors enjoy.
