Henry Marshall (American football)
Henry Howard Marshall (born August 9, 1954) is a former American football wide receiver who played in the NFL for the Kansas City Chiefs. He played college football for the Missouri Tigers and was selected by the Chiefs in the third round of the 1976 NFL draft (79th overall). He was 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighed 214 pounds.
Marshall spent his entire NFL career with Kansas City, from 1976 to 1987. Early in his career he was labeled as having “bad hands,” but he worked hard and became the Chiefs’ top receiver for much of his time there. Chiefs coach Paul Wiggin called him a “super kid who can be a premier player.”
In his NFL career, Marshall had 416 receptions for 6,545 yards and 33 receiving touchdowns, in 165 games. He earned first-team All-American honors in 1975 and first-team All-Big Eight that same year in college.
Key seasons include 1980, when he had 47 receptions for 799 yards and 6 touchdowns as the Chiefs moved to a pro-style offense. His best single-season performance was in 1984, with 62 catches for 912 yards. Marshall ranks second in Chiefs history for receptions, behind Tony Gonzalez.
