Alexandra Powers is a former American actress who was born in New York City. She grew up in an artsy, liberal environment on both coasts with her divorced parents. Her mother, Katharyn Powers, wrote for TV, and her father teaches acting. Powers announced at age six that she wanted to be an actress.

She acted in TV and films from 1980 to 2001, including Cast a Deadly Spell, 21 Jump Street, and Dead Poets Society. In Rising Sun, she played a prostitute who tries to seduce Wesley Snipes’s character. She had a recurring role on L.A. Law and played Dusty Brown in the NBC miniseries A Matter of Justice. She was excited about being cast in Tonya and Nancy and trained in ice skating for the role.

A review in The Orlando Sentinel noted she looked like Tonya Harding and delivered a convincing performance. Powers has said her parents encouraged her to find her own truth. She has explored faith in different ways: her father is Roman Catholic, her mother is interested in metaphysics, and she herself was not tied to a religion in the early 1990s, even trying Buddhism for about six months.

She married actor Barry Del Sherman in December 1993. Later, she married Gavin Potter in 2000 and joined Scientology, specifically the Sea Organization.
