Johan Åqvist

Johan Åqvist (born 1959) is a Swedish biochemist and academic. He is a professor of theoretical chemistry at Uppsala University, in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology. He earned his PhD in 1987 from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, with a thesis on protein dynamics and interactions. His research covers physical chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology and medicine. He co-authored the Q software package for molecular dynamics. He was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 2009 and is a member as of 2023. From 2021 to 2023, he served as chair of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry.
