Critics welcomed the recording. AllMusic gave it 3 out of 5 stars, calling the album a precious gift and noting that the songs are lively, guitar- and piano-based versions from her studio albums. CMJ New Music Monthly praised the feel of a show where audience and performer connect naturally, and complimented Williams’s plaintive, graceful singing. Entertainment Weekly gave it a B, describing the 16 songs as sweet, subtle tales of dirt-road despair. No Depression admired the instrumentation as beautiful, though it suggested the release may not win Williams new fans, it would satisfy her existing listeners. Trouser Press praised the piano-based chamber-pop arrangements, likening their quality to Joni Mitchell, while noting the set can verge on precious but remains strong.

All songs are written by Victoria Williams, unless noted otherwise. The album features Victoria Williams and The Loose Band, with additional personnel contributing.
