Jocky Scott
John Alexander Scott, known as Jocky Scott, was born on 14 January 1948 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He is a Scottish football coach and former player who played as a striker. His club career included long spells with Dundee (1964–1975) and Aberdeen (1975–1977), plus a season with Seattle Sounders in the United States (1977–1978) and a return to Dundee (1978–1981). He made 393 club appearances and scored 143 goals in total. Scott earned two caps for Scotland in 1971.
He won the Scottish League Cup with both Dundee and Aberdeen and scored a memorable hat-trick for Aberdeen in a 5–1 win over Rangers in the 1976 semi-final. He also played in the North American Soccer League, reaching Soccer Bowl 1977 with Seattle.
After his playing days, Scott moved into management and coaching. He managed Dundee in three spells (1986–1988, 1998–2000, 2008–2010), was co-manager of Aberdeen (1988–1991), and led Dunfermline Athletic (1991–1993) and Arbroath (1994). He had caretaker roles at Hibernian (1996) and Plymouth Argyle (2005). He also managed Notts County (2000–2001), Raith Rovers (2002) and Stirling Albion (2011). Outside of management, he worked as a coach at Sunderland, Plymouth Argyle and Hibernian, and Aberdeen appointed him to their coaching staff in 2012. His father, Willie Scott, played for Aberdeen and Newcastle United in the 1930s.
