Location
Jiljilyya is bordered by Al Mazra'a ash Sharqiya to the east, Sinjil to the east and north, 'Abwein to the north, and Silwad to the south.

History
Ottoman era
Jiljilyya appears in Ottoman records in 1596 as Jinjiliyya, part of the Nahiya (subdistrict) of Quds. It had 8 Muslim households and paid taxes on crops and other revenues, totaling 2,600 akçe. In the 19th century, travelers described it as a Muslim village in the Beni Zeid district north of Jerusalem. By 1870, about 200 people were recorded, and in 1882 it was described as a large village on a high hill with a nearby well and olive trees.

British Mandate era
In the 1922 census, Jeljelieh had 162 Muslims, rising to 212 by the 1931 census. In 1945, the population was 280 Muslims, and the village covered about 7,283 dunams of land, used for plantations, cereals, and other uses, with a small portion built up.

Jordanian era
After the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, Jiljilyya came under Jordanian rule and was annexed by Jordan in 1950. The 1961 census recorded 490 inhabitants.

Post-1967
Since the Six-Day War in 1967, Jiljilyya has been under Israeli occupation. After the 1995 Oslo II accords, about 99.3% of the village land was designated Area A, with 0.7% as Area B.

Death of Omar Assad
In January 2022, Omar Assad, a 78-year-old Palestinian American, died after being detained by Israeli soldiers. The autopsy indicated a stress-related heart attack, possibly tied to the detention. The U.S. State Department called for a criminal investigation. In October 2022, reports claimed Israel would pay compensation to the Assad family, but the family rejected the offer.
