Niemir is a male Slavic given name of Old Slavic origin, found in several Slavic languages with spellings like Něměr, Niemierz, and Nemyr. The female form is Niemira. The name combines nie- meaning "not" with mir, which can mean "peace," "good," "great," or "famous." It is related to names such as Mirogniew and Mirogod, and to the Gothic -mir in names like Theodemir and Valamir. In medieval Mazovian texts, Niemierza sometimes appeared as Erasmus, a Greek-derived name. In Poland, Niemir’s name day is February 14. Many places are named after Niemir, including Niemierzyn, Niemierze, Niemirowice, Niemirki, and Niemirów (four in Poland and two in Ukraine, Nemyriv); Niemirówka (one in Poland and two in Ukraine, Nemyrivka); and Nimereuca in Moldova.
