Jerzy Montag
Jerzy Montag, born February 13, 1947, in Katowice, Poland, is a German politician with the Green Party. After finishing his Abitur in Mannheim in 1966, he studied sociology, political science, and law in Heidelberg, Mannheim, and Munich. He has worked as a freelance lawyer since passing his Staatsexamen in 1975, specializing in criminal law. Montag joined the Greens in 1984 and led the party in Bavaria from 1998 to 2002. Since 2002 he has been a member of the Bundestag, elected from the Bavarian regional list after an unsuccessful run in the Munich South constituency, and he is the Greens’ parliamentary group spokesperson on legal policy. In 2005 he was the Greens’ spokesman during the Committee of Inquiry on the German Visa Affair 2005.
