Jefferson is an unincorporated community in Wayne County, Ohio. It was laid out on June 30, 1829, by Stephen Williams and Alexander Hutchinson, after being surveyed by George Emery. The plat and certificate were filed on July 2, 1829. The town was named for Thomas Jefferson, the third U.S. president. An earlier name for the area was Plain.

Jefferson grew as a business center because it was about four miles west of Wooster, the county seat, and a coach line passed through the town. It later declined in popularity. A post office named Plain operated from 1833 to 1907.

Today, homes and businesses in Jefferson use Wooster addresses. A few companies operate there or near the original settlement, including B.W. Rogers Co, Kelly's Propane, Professional Textile Services, Central Farm & Garden Inc, and Airgas Store. Jefferson sits at the intersection of N Jefferson Rd and W Old Lincoln Way, about 40.8017°N, 82.0231°W.
