Institute of Management Consultants USA
Institute of Management Consultants USA (IMC USA) is the main professional group for individual management consultants in the United States. It certifies consultants with the Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation, earned for experience, skills, client satisfaction, and ethical conduct. The CMC is recognized in 46 countries and accredited by the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI).
Founded in 1968, IMC USA aims to promote excellence and ethics in management consulting through certification, education, and resources. It offers professional development, events, business resources, certification support, and networks for members across 20 chapters in major U.S. cities, and it holds a national conference each year.
Key activities include surveys of business and consulting, a consultant search service, publishing professional standards, a Code of Ethics with enforcement, and maintaining the Management Consulting Common Body of Knowledge and a Competency Framework to support the CMC certification. Members work in many industries and roles, in global and boutique firms, independent practices, and as internal consultants in nonprofits and government. In 2010, the CMC certification process was ISO-accredited.
