Whodunit is a 1977 disco-pop song by American group Tavares. Written by Freddie Perren and Keni St. Lewis and produced by Perren, it appeared on the album Love Storm and was released as a Capitol Records single with the B-side “Fool of the Year.” The catchy hook asks, “Whodunit? Who stole my baby?” and the narrator asks a string of famous detectives—Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Chan, Ellery Queen, McCloud, Kojak, Baretta, and Dirty Harry—to help solve the mystery. The gimmick is similar to The Coasters’ 1957 hit “Searchin’.” The song topped the US R&B chart for one week in May 1977, reached No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100, and climbed to No. 5 in the UK for two weeks in May 1977.
