Jean Mischo
Jean Mischo (1938 in Luxembourg City – 10 May 2016) was a Luxembourg jurist and diplomat who served as an Advocate General at the European Court of Justice. He studied law and political science at the universities of Montpellier, Paris and Cambridge. He worked in Luxembourg’s Commission Legal Service and in the private offices of two European Commission members, and he held several senior posts in Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Deputy Permanent Representative to the European Communities. He first served as Advocate General at the Court of Justice from January 1986 to October 1991, where he distinguished himself in the Factortame case. He then returned to Luxembourg’s Foreign Ministry and became Ambassador and Secretary General from January 1993. By a decision of 29 May 1997, he was appointed Advocate General to the European Court of Justice for the period from 7 October 1997 to 6 October 2003.
