Vitebsk (air base)

Vitebsk (Vitebsk-North) is a former military air base in northern Belarus, about 8 km northeast of the city of Vitebsk. It has a small airfield layout with a large central tarmac. In the Soviet era it housed the 339th Military Air Transport Regiment, which flew 32 Ilyushin Il-76 cargo jets and Antonov An-22 transport planes. The regiment was disbanded in 1996. The base is also known as Vitebsk Northeast or Andronovichi. The main runway, 06/24, is closed; it was 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) long and concrete. Elevation is about 194 meters above sea level. Coordinates: 55.2550° N, 30.2467° E.
