Jaroslava Jehličková
Jaroslava Jehličková (born 24 March 1942 in Hořice) is a Czech former middle-distance runner who competed for Czechoslovakia. She made history in 1969 by becoming the first international champion in the women's 1500 metres, winning gold at the European Athletics Championships in Athens and setting a world record of 4:10.77. She also won the 800 metres at that meet.
Jehličková competed at the Olympic Games twice, in 1968 and 1972. She reached the semi-finals in 1968, and in 1972 she reached the 1500m semi-final but finished last there. She ranked 12th in the world that season.
At the national level she claimed the Czechoslovak Championships titles in the 800m in 1966 and 1968, and in 1969 she became the first Czechoslovak to win the 1500m, also defending the 800m title. In 1971 she won both middle-distance events at the nationals. Her last high-level year was 1972, when she won another 1500m title, bringing her total national titles in the two events to seven. Her personal bests were 2:04.7 for the 800m and 4:08.39 for the 1500m.
