James Galloway OAM (born 11 April 1964) is an Australian former rower who became a World Champion and Commonwealth Games gold medallist.

Born in Canberra, he began rowing at Telopea Park School and continued at Narrabundah College. His senior club was the Canberra Rowing Club, and he later held an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship from 1985 to 1988.

Galloway’s first national title came while still at school, winning the under-19 pair in the 1982 Australian Rowing Championships. He then won the under-23 title in 1983 in a composite coxed four, and in 1984 took the under-23 coxless pair title with Paul Thompson. He also raced for New South Wales in the King’s Cup, the men’s Interstate Eight-Oared Championship, in 1988.

His international career began early when he and Thompson finished fourth at the 1982 World Rowing Junior Championships in Piediluco, Italy. His senior debut came at the 1986 World Rowing Championships in Nottingham, where he rowed in the bow seat of Australia’s men’s eight that won the world title—the first and only World Championship in the men’s eight for Australia. That year, at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, the same eight won gold in the men’s eight, and Galloway also earned a bronze medal in the coxed four.

At the 1987 World Rowing Championships in Copenhagen, he competed in the coxed four, which finished eighth. His final representative appearance was at the 1988 Summer Olympics, where the Australian eight finished fifth in the final.
