Yoshihisa Furukawa (born August 3, 1965) is a Japanese politician with the Liberal Democratic Party. He has served as a member of the House of Representatives since 2003, representing Miyazaki’s 3rd district. He was Japan’s Minister of Justice from October 2021 to August 2022 under Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Furukawa was born in Kushima, Miyazaki, into a family that ran a small shochu distillery and liquor store. He studied at La Salle Academy and then at the University of Tokyo. After college, he joined the Ministry of Construction in 1989. He unsuccessfully ran for office in 1996 and 2000 before being elected in 2003 as an independent; he has also been affiliated with New Frontier (1996–1998) and with independent groups in other periods.
