Jagath Alwis

Major General K. Jagath Alwis is a retired Sri Lankan army officer. He held several senior roles, including Commander Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna, Colonel Commandant of the Military Intelligence Corps, and Chief of National Intelligence. He also served as Sri Lankan Deputy Ambassador to Israel and as Commander of the President's Guard. He is currently the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security.

Alwis studied at Ananda College in Colombo. He joined the army as a cadet and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Gajaba Regiment. He is a graduate of the National Defence College and the Defence Services Command and Staff College.

He fought in the JVP insurrection (1987-89) and the Sri Lankan Civil War. He received the Rana Wickrama Padakkama, Rana Sura Padakkama, and Uttama Seva Padakkama awards.

In 2014, he was appointed Commander Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna, one of the most senior commands in the Sri Lankan military. After retiring from the army, he served as Chief of National Intelligence before becoming Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security.
