Israel at the 1974 Asian Games

The 1974 Asian Games were held in Tehran, Iran, from September 1 to September 16. This was Israel’s last appearance at the Asian Games. Israeli athletes won 19 medals in total: 7 gold, 4 silver, and 8 bronze, finishing 6th in the medal table.

Some Arab nations, along with Iran, Pakistan, China, and North Korea, refused to compete against Israel in certain sports, so Israel did not participate in tennis, fencing, basketball, and football at these Games.

In 1976, the Asian Games Federation decided to bar Israel from the 1978 Games. Of the 25 member countries, 12 responses were received to a survey asking whether Israel should participate in 1978, and all 12 voted against including Israel.

Coach: Abraham Hemo.
