Island Sports Media
Island Sports Media is a Hawaii-based sports news organization. Its quarterly magazine covers island sports and related topics. The magazine is published by JAMK Photography, owned by Steve Kajihiro, based in Everett, Washington. The group also runs a blog.
Each year, Island Sports Media presents the Island Sports Media Athlete of the Year award to a Hawaii-connected athlete of any sport who is a standout performer and a positive role model on and off the field. Winners are chosen by a mix of votes from Island Sports Media writers and photographers, sponsors, coaches, and fans. The first award in 2008 went to David Veikune of the University of Hawaii football team. In 2009, the award expanded to include youth and collegiate divisions. Each category has three finalists after a nomination process, and fans vote for their favorites, with a portion of the vote counting toward the final result.
