Irresistible (Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel song)
Irresistible is a pop song written by Steve Harley. It was first released in 1985 as a single by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel on RAK Records, with the B-side “Such Is Life.” The 7-inch and 12-inch versions were issued in several countries, and the single reached number 81 on the UK charts. The song was performed live at Camden Palace in London in December 1984, and a version with a more guitar-driven sound later appeared on the TV–recorded Live from London video.
In 1986, Harley released a remixed version as a solo single from his album El Gran Senor. The remix, done with producer Mickie Most and engineer Stuart Breed at Air Studios, sped up the track and replaced the original guitar solo with a keyboard solo. The B-side was “Lucky Man,” featuring Mick Ronson on guitar. The 1986 release did not chart well, stalling at 158 in the UK. The album El Gran Senor was later shelved after RAK folded and was sold to EMI.
A third release came in 1992, when the song was issued in Europe as the lead single from Harley’s Yes You Can. Breed’s remix was used again, and the European CD single included the B-side “The Waggon.” “The Waggon” was written by Harley and had previously appeared as a B-side in a different form, originally titled “The Theme from Babbacombe Lee.”
