Iran sent a single athlete to the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia, held March 7–16. It was Iran’s fifth Winter Paralympics. The only competitor was Sadegh Kalhor, a standing alpine skier who had his right leg amputated after a skiing accident in his teens. He finished 20th in the standing slalom, with two runs of 58.07 seconds and 1:03.17, for a total time of 2:01.24. Kalhor was Iran’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony, but the team left before the closing ceremony. Iran has participated in every Winter Paralympics since 1998 and in every Summer Paralympics since 1988. The 2014 Games had 45 countries and 547 athletes. In Kalhor’s event, the gold went to Alexey Bugaev of Russia (1:38.97), the silver to Vincent Gauthier-Manuel of France, and the bronze to Alexander Alyabyev of Russia.
