WJZZ (FM)
WJZZ (FM) is a non-profit radio station broadcasting at 88.1 MHz in Montgomery, New York. It is owned by Hudson Valley Public Radio, Inc. and brands itself as Pulse 87, airing a dance/EDM format. The station has had several call signs over the years: WGMY (2006–2009), WNYX (2009–2014), and WQCD (2014); the call sign WJZZ originally hints at jazz.
WJZZ operates as a Class A station with about 1,150 watts of power. It also uses translators to extend its reach in Redwood, New York (99.5 FM) and Milford, Pennsylvania (88.1 FM). The station is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
The station went off the air in September 2018 due to funding issues, briefly broadcasting again on August 22, 2019, to keep its license. In the summer of 2024, WJZZ returned to the air, broadcasting the Pulse 87 internet stream and bringing the Pulse 87 EDM format back to terrestrial FM in New York. Pulse 87 had last been heard on WNYZ-LD until 2009. More information is at pulse87ny.com.
