Ion “Bebe” Barbu (24 December 1938 – 2 May 2011) was a Romanian football defender who played for clubs in Romania and Turkey and earned seven caps for Romania.

Born in Craiova, he started his career with Locomotiva Craiova (1954–1957) and then Dinamo Obor București (1957–1959). In 1959 he joined Argeș Pitești, helping them climb from the second division to Romania’s top league and reach the Cupa României final in 1964–65. He made his Divizia A debut in 1961. Barbu stayed with Argeș Pitești until 1970, playing in European competitions and helping the team grow in the league.

In 1970 he moved to Beşiktaş in Turkey, making 20 league appearances. He returned to Argeș Pitești in 1971 and stayed until 1974, contributing to the club’s first league title in 1971–72. He also played in the European Cup in the early 1970s. He finished with 224 Divizia A appearances and 3 goals, plus 14 European appearances.

Internationally, Barbu debuted for Romania in 1966 and earned seven caps. He captained Romania in a friendly against Austria and, in his final appearance, wore the captain’s armband in a 0–0 draw with England.

After retiring as a player, Barbu managed Muscelul Câmpulung and Metalurgistul Cugir. He later served as Argeș Pitești’s president from 1978 to 1982, during which the club won the 1978–79 league title. In 2004 he was named an Honorary Citizen of Pitești. He died in a hospital in Pitești on 2 May 2011, aged 72.
