Ioannis Damanakis
Ioannis Damanakis (born 2 October 1952 in Chania, Crete) is a former Greek footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. He started his career with AO Chania before joining PAOK in 1976, after being chosen by PAOK’s president Giorgos Pantelakis. Damanakis became a regular with PAOK and won the affection of the fans, making 242 league appearances and scoring 16 goals over nine seasons. He helped PAOK reach five Greek Cup finals and win the Greek league title in 1985. After leaving PAOK, he spent one season with Makedonikos and finished his career with E.A.R.
Internationally, Damanakis earned 24 caps and scored one goal for Greece between 1977 and 1983, and he was part of the Greece squad for UEFA Euro 1980.
