Inuvik (Mike Zubko) Airport
Inuvik (Mike Zubko) Airport, IATA YEV, ICAO CYEV, is a public airport near Inuvik in the Northwest Territories, Canada. It is operated by the Government of the Northwest Territories and lies about 6.5 nautical miles east of Inuvik. The airport uses Mountain Time (UTC−07:00) and observes daylight saving time in the summer (UTC−06:00). It sits at an elevation of 223 feet (68 meters). The runway is 06/24, 6,006 feet (1,831 meters) long and has an asphalt surface. In 2010, there were about 15,015 aircraft movements.
YEV is an airport of entry staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency and can handle general aviation aircraft with no more than 15 passengers. It is also used as a forward operating base for Royal Canadian Air Force CF-18 jets. In 2019, the federal government announced a $150 million plan to extend the runway by 3,000 feet to 9,000 feet and to upgrade lighting, navigation, and military landing systems. The airport was named in 1995 for Mike Zubko (1923–1991), a famous local aviator. Canadian North provides scheduled jet service to Inuvik using Boeing 737-300 aircraft.
