Intruders (2011 film)
Intruders is a 2011 supernatural horror film directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. The English-language movie was written by Nicolás Casariego and Jaime Marques, based on a story by Fresnadillo. It stars Clive Owen, Carice van Houten, Daniel Brühl, Pilar López de Ayala, Ella Purnell, Izan Corchero, Kerry Fox and Héctor Alterio.
The story follows two separate families who are stalked by an invisible monster called Hollow Face that wants to steal their faces and souls. In England, Hollow Face targets John Farrow after his 12-year-old daughter Mia is assaulted at home. In Spain, the monster affects Luisa and her adolescent son Juan after he is attacked. As fear and mistrust grow, the line between reality and imagination blurs and nothing seems secure.
The film was shot in London, Madrid and Segovia. It was produced by Antena 3 Films, Apaches Entertainment and Universal Pictures, with a budget of about $12 million. Intruders runs 100 minutes and is a collaboration between Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. It premiered in Spain on October 7, 2011; released in the United Kingdom on January 27, 2012; and had a limited release in the United States on March 30, 2012. It grossed around $5 million worldwide.
Critical reception was mixed to negative. Viewers and critics praised the performances, atmosphere and the early part of the film, but felt the plot became bland, relied too much on jump scares, and found the villain weak.
