Interplay (magazine)
Interplay was a short-lived gaming magazine from Metagaming Concepts, published from 1981 to 1982. It focused on Metagaming products, especially The Fantasy Trip, and began as The Metagamer Diaries #1 (May/June 1981) after Metagaming sold The Space Gamer. The magazine’s quality was seen as lower than Metagaming’s previous work, with black-and-white covers and a layout more like fan magazines than The Space Gamer.
The company ran into financial trouble, and in Interplay #8 (Sept/Oct 1982) Howard Thompson touted successful game lines and promised new products that never appeared. Thompson soon left the industry. Genesis Gaming Products later bought Interplay, along with Dwarfstar Games, from Heritage USA. A reviewer in The Space Gamer No. 41 called the first issue useful for notes and errata but not well written or edited, and noted that for TFT material you were better off buying the annual supplement.
