India at the 2002 Winter Olympics
India competed at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, USA, from February 8 to 24. It was India's sixth appearance at the Winter Games since 1964. The team had one athlete, Shiva Keshavan, a male luger who also carried India’s flag at the opening ceremony. He did not win a medal, and India had not won any Winter Olympic medals yet. Keshavan was the only Indian in luge and competed with a rented sled funded by himself because the Indian Olympic Association did not sponsor him. The luge event took place at Utah Olympic Park in Park City on February 10–11. Keshavan finished 33rd overall with a total time of 3:04.983, more than seven seconds behind the gold medalist Armin Zöggeler of Italy.
